Unpopular Opinions/Makeup Influencer Culture/Jaclyn Hill Lies

We all have our own unpopular opinions-some we may share with others.. are they really that unpopular then? My current tired brain awake writing this at 5am cannot wrap my mind around this.. anyway

Some of my unpopular opinions are that I despise the taste and smell of soda. I've always been told by people that my tastes will change and once I get older I will drink it-but I can guarantee that has not and will never happen. *GAG* In a way this next one kind of makes no sense, but I hate the taste of watermelon.. and yes I do drink water.

I don't understand the hype with Billie Eilish. I recognize that she has some raw vocal talent most definitely, but to me her songs are just not doing her justice. She showed up to a red-carpet event in baggy clothing- she is definitely trying to not fit in-but as a feminine woman myself-yikes.

I see many people agree with this one but this generation may not agree that music is just not what it used to be. You can still find great music if you look for it but in general, what is trending... is complete crap; however, I have a huge bias with Ariana Grande. As you could probably tell from my past blog post (Alexa play Breathin') And yes, I do as well enjoy music that is not Pop. Some of my favorite songs to sing are Soul/R&B.

I personally don't understand the obsession with influencers on YouTube. I have to admit I am guilty of caving and purchasing the Jeffree Star X Shane Dawson Conspiracy Palette. I feel like you may start to believe I'm contradicting myself but I promise I am not... In that case I feel like all we makeup lovers got manipulated to buy the product. I became so invested that no matter what I was going to buy that palette. The hype was exciting and receiving it was just as great- but the product itself? A bit patchy. And that's where another unpopular opinion comes in. Well... it looks great on my makeup vanity? Can Shane Dawson seriously stop mentioning how "poor" he is?

Let's veer off into the topic sort of tying into the above paragraph.. influencer culture. What has been circulating around lately is the lies of Jaclyn Hill. The drama started when Jenlovesreviews posted a YouTube video saying she had to take down her review of the original Jaclyn Hill palette because it no longer stands true.

The formula has changed and consumers were not made aware of the modifications until people started to speak out about it due to the posting of Jenlovesreviews video. THEN they finally addressed the situation. Morphe had been falsely advertising this palette as vegan for a few months. Most notably, there has been the addition of Carmine(crushed up beetles) used for pigment.

In Jaclyn Hill's launch video for her 2nd palette, she claimed that the formula was the same as the first one- which is a lie. I don't understand why she would lie-knowing full well people are going to come out with the truth. Is she not already in a deep hole? Apparently this new palette has not yet sold out- and honestly I'm not mad about that. It just seems like there's always something, why can't a launch be successful for once? Oh, because she can't stop lying.

I understand people can make mistakes- this is the most common retaliation I see from cult fans of hers. I don't think the majority of these "mistakes" are even mistakes. Bad choices? Okay.. fine. I'm sure the majority of us would recall a hairy glass filled lipstick, am I right? Or is that another one of my unpopular opinions?

We are aloud to give constructive criticism, Jaclyn should be open to this but in her launch video- she doesn't talk about or own up to the things she could actually improve on- she simply focuses on the haters and brushes everybody else off. OK the palette may be good- but is the lying really necessary?

In her video, she discussed her issues with alcohol and that caused her to gain weight- clearly due to the stress she has gone through when the lipstick drama started. I know what it is like to be made fun of but... personally I can't feel bad for her. I just can't. I understand just because one person has it tougher that does not dismiss another's struggles but the whole thing came off as a little disingenuous.. A shade name in the palette is called tipsy girl..  really girl?

Perhaps another video could have been made from her before the launch of her palette.. she opened up but it could have been more impactful. She knows what her audience is thinking-people sure do hand it to her, she's tried to make the audience pity her. What would make her feel better? Ah buying her new palette. Can someone explain to me why they seriously could not push back the launch date?

All in all, when are we going to start idolizing influencers who are honest and trustworthy? Will we ever? Can a makeup influencer truly be guided by their morals and not money? When is this Morphe obsession going to end?

Let me know down below your thoughts and what are some of your unpopular opinions?

Dream on, my friends.
